Global leader in Innovation, 3M, connects solutions to mining challenges at the 2014 Mining Indaba Conference
Multinational, innovative science and technology based company, 3M, will be both exhibiting and presenting at the 2014 Mining Indaba conference. A topical calendar event, attended by the industry’s global and local ministers, senior executives and corporate mining heads annually will this year be attended by the 3M global and local senior executives: Vice President of Mining, Oil & Gas - Mr. Jeff Lavers, Technical Director of Mining, Oil & Gas - Mr. Jeff Tane and Global Business Director for Mining & Metallurgy Solutions - Mr. Henk Beukman.
Set to cast the debate on its global product solutions and local commitment towards safety and working conditions in the mining industry, the team of executives will be addressing delegates in their presentation sessions on 5 February at 11h33-12h20, sharing ideas, trends and uncovering solutions that improve operational continuity and advance the industry.
The 3M stand will be manned by industry experts offering selected product demonstrations for the duration of the Mining Indaba and several key product portfolios from the Personal Safety Division (PSD), Electrical Markets Division (EMD), Traffic Safety Systems (TSS), Electronics Markets Materials Division (EMMD) and Building Commercial Services (BCSD) will be showcased.
PSD will be demonstrating its vast personal safety portfolio, including locally produced disposable respirators – manufactured in line with the latest international standards, SABS approved and endorsed by Proudly South Africa; hearing protection from the 3M E-A-R fit™ category; stylish protective coveralls that offer breathable comfort and the 6 500 half-piece reusable respirator.
EMD will showcase its Cold Shrink technology which has been developed for use in medium voltage joints and terminations. The one-part joint bodies and terminations have built-in stress control, semi-conducting and insulation layers. The live memory action shrinks the component to give a durable seal, offering greater reliability, reduced labour costs and less hazardous working conditions.
3M Novec™ 1230 Fire Protection Fluid will be demonstrated by EMMD and is the only sustainable fire extinguishing fluid that does not damage the materials it is sprayed onto, and has the greatest margin of safety, with no adverse effect on humans and zero ozone depletion potential. It has a wide range of applications and is an appropriate solution for the protection of sensitive critical systems such as substations, switchgear rooms, server rooms and control rooms in above and below ground scenarios.
TSS will focus on its range of 3M reflective tapes and retro-reflective road signage material. This demonstrates a wide reflective angularity of up to 90 degrees, helping road users to identify vehicles and traffic signs with ease from a greater distance than is offered by conventional reflectives, improving safety in particularly vulnerable situations such as turning, crossing traffic or reversing. This retro-reflective technology has also been implemented on 3M’s range of reflective clothing, improving worker safety in the mining environment.
Lastly, BCSD will be presenting the 3M Nomad™ Matting System which is generally used as flooring and a trapping substance, retaining and concealing everything from dirt and sand to water and other moisture, while also providing a non-slip walking surface is also being demonstrated. In the mining environment however, this is also used for sieving gold, and commonly referred to as ‘Miner Moss’.
Visitors can expect to see upcoming new products which will complement their existing portfolio and promote worker safety. Brochures and industry experts will be manning the stand to network and interact with delegates, customers and visitors with selected product demonstrations to take place for the duration of the Mining Indaba. The diversified technology company brings this year a wealth of new product solutions product experience and knowledge available for multiple industries.
Renowned for its innovative solutions, 3M’s technology is being utilised locally allowing for advancements in producing products that are aligned to offering high quality performance, safety and comfort. Celebrating 61 years in South Africa, 3M’s vision remains relevant – to add value, and to lead with technology and innovative solutions that advance peer companies, enhance homes and improve the lives of our customers, communities and country.
