RelyX™ Ultimate Adhesive Resin Cement and RelyX™ Unicem 2 Self-Adhesive Resin Cement – Each a champion in its own class

March, 2012

3M ESPE recently introduced a compelling addition to the company’s family of high-performance resin cements: RelyX™ Ultimate Adhesive Resin Cement for Dental use. The new product complements RelyX™ Unicem 2 Self-Adhesive Resin Cement by offering ultimate bond strength in a product specifically designed for glass ceramic cementation. In combination with Scotchbond™ Universal Adhesive, the new cement achieves ultimate bond strengths to all restoration materials as well as enamel and dentin, independent of the application technique.

At first glance, RelyX™ Ultimate and RelyX™ Unicem 2 appear quite similar, as both are available in automix syringes with a variety of mixing tips and are recommended for a whole range of indications. The obvious difference between the twois that RelyX™ Ultimate requires a separate adhesive, whereas RelyX™ Unicem is based on a self-adhesive formulation. The combination of RelyX™ Ultimate with the adhesive leads to exceptional bond strength to a tooth structure. RelyX™ Ultimate is recommended for particularly demanding cases in terms of bond strength, e.g. for the cementation of ceramic restorations, adhesive bridges or even veneers.

Incombination with Scotchbond™ Universal adhesive results in unrivalled adhesion to both enamel and dentin. Bond strengths are particularly high on enamel when compared to other leading cements. These impressive results are achieved regardless of whether the self-etch or etch & rinse technique is chosen. Last but not least, the work process requires fewer components than with competitive adhesive resin cements, because Scotchbond™ Universal Adhesive functions as a metal and ceramic primer as well as a silane agent and the cement has an integrated dark cure activator for the adhesive.

RelyX™ Unicem on the other hand leads to a fast and easy cementation process, because working steps such as etching, priming and bonding of the surfaces are eliminated altogether. Despite this simplification, the bond strength to tooth structure is comparable to many existing adhesive resin cements in the market. Consequently, the cement is recommended for all treatments where time is important.

No matter whether performing a routine procedure or a particularly challenging case, the 3M ESPE cement portfolio now offers an appropriate solution for every cementation procedure. And for cases requiring a light-cure only cement, RelyX™ Veneer Cement offers ideal properties – also in combination with the Scotchbond™ Universal adhesive.
